Have you ever watched a game of cricket and thought about having a go? Perhaps you saw a few overs and thought "I'm too old for that!" or perhaps you could cope with all the running about, and didn't know where to start? For parents the dilemma is doubly difficult. You would like your son/daughter to be involved with a sport that extends their talents, and for them to be part of a team. This, however. needs to done in a safe environment where your child can develop.
For the youngsters
Stayley Cricket Club are first and foremost about introducing new players to the sport. We are ECB accredited which means that we offer a supportive environment for all players; from 7 years old and upwards. We offer different activities for different age-groups and abilities to ensure that each player is in a group that is suitable for them. We have Junior squads for under-9s, under-11s, under-13s, under-15s and under-18s.
For the women
All of the junior squads are open to both boys and girls, and Stayley have fielded mixed teams in many of their junior fixtures. The Senior teams, however, are predominantly male. This is not due to bias, or even rules (we are a mixed club throughout), the problem is with the lack of participation in women's cricket in the region. 2016 is an exciting year for women's cricket, as Stayley are working with the Pennine League and other local clubs to introduce women to the sport. If we can get just half a squad, other clubs have 5 or 6 women who can make a team! Forget historic rivalries, it's time for Women's Cricket!
For the veterans
Stayley introduced a third team in 2015 and following on from our 100% success rate (Played one, Won one), we are keen to see this through to 2016. The third team is a mixture of the local veterans and new-and-upcoming juniors. This is where the knowledge of the game is passed on to our young players. If you are one of our former Stayley players and are not involved in the 3rd XI yet, then you need to do so. It is your duty to pass on your skills (or luck) to our next generation. There are just a few matches this season; and you never know - you might enjoy it!
For us all
Whatever your background or experience, Stayley are keen that you try out our facilities and at least have a go at the sport. Stayley offers training sessions throughout the year - and the first session is free.
Maybe you are not interested in cricket but would like to use our facilities? Stayley has recently implemented a £50,000 National Lottery award to build the best quality changing rooms and provide access throughout the clubhouse for the disabled. This was a massive achievement, and we would like to share our success with local communities and clubs. If you have a sport that can use our facilities, if your local group would like to meet here or if you have a business to promote, then please let us know.
